Non-magnetic UBHO Sub

1. Features of Our Non-Magnetic UBHO Sub

Constructed from heavy-duty non-magnetic forgings, the Non-Magnetic UBHO (Universal Bottom Hole Orientation) is designed to absorb intense PDM vibrations. The sub’s body and rotary connections are fabricated to exact API 7-1 tolerances, delivering a robust structural envelope that protects delicate orientation equipment during aggressive drilling parameters.

The internal profile is specifically optimized to provide a robust landing shoulder for directional instruments while maintaining sufficient annular fluid bypass, preventing severe pressure spikes during high-volume mud circulation.

2. Typical Oilfield Applications

In steerable motor assemblies, the UBHO sub functions as the critical mechanical interface positioned directly between the Positive Displacement Motor (PDM) and the MWD string. Field operations rely on this component for two specific functions:

  • Tool-Face Synchronization: It provides the rigid seating profile necessary to lock the muleshoe assembly. This establishes a fixed physical reference, aligning the directional probe directly with the motor’s bent housing to ensure accurate trajectory steering from the surface.
  • Probe Isolation & Fluid Bypass: While securely housing sensitive surveying electronics, the engineered internal geometry forces high-velocity drilling fluids to bypass the instruments safely. This protects the payload from abrasive washouts and prevents severe flow restrictions during heavy mud circulation.
